Couch to 5K

The couch to 5k program works by re-introducing running gradually into your life one week at a time. The idea is to transform you from couch potato to runner, getting you running three miles (or 5K) on a regular basis in just two months. I like this because it builds up slowly and gradually until you reach your desired outcome. It’s also cool cause you can download podcasts to go along with it telling when to switch between walking and running ect…

So here is what week 1 looks like. I hope to be able to start week 1 tommorow or Friday.

Workout #1
Brisk five-minute warmup walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes.
Workout #2
Brisk five-minute warmup walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes.
Workout #3
Brisk five-minute warmup walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes

You should take time between sessions to rest your muscles and give your body time to adapt/recuperate. This week however, I might have to clump it in cause it’s Wednesday now. So Thursday, Friday and Sunday for instance. I would seriously do it tonight, but tonight is the season premier of Lost and hello!! Priorities 🙂 haha.

About mommamaynard

“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving.” — Albert Einstein. When it feels like your world has been shattered, and you have reached rock bottom, you must make a choice: Stay where you are and fade away, or keep moving forward. Thankfully I chose to move forward and was blessed with the two most wonderful children after the death of my first in early labor. Things are looking up.

  1. I started this next week. I’ve done it before and it’s great, I enjoyed it.

  2. I may have to start this when it gets a bit warmer. My lungs + very cold weather = very bad coughing.

    • Ya me too. Plus, I just hate the cold with a passion, I am lucky to have a membership for the Y included with my pay. All Y staff get a free family membership.
