First Know Thyself!

Ever hear the saying "Be Careful the Toes You Step on Today, They Might be Attached to the Ass you Have to Kiss Tommorow!"
Well-Today, I proved that saying true, See back when I was pregnant with Evan, I was unhappily working in a call centre long hours just trying to make ends meet. Anyways, there some really nice people I worked with that I remain in touch with over a year later, but there were a couple of folks I didn’t get on with and don’t talk to anymore at all. Two girls in particular made life rather unpleasent for people who got stuck on shift with them. One in particular I thought was so rude, short with me, always angry, unproffesional and rude to the team leads and just out boozing and partying all the time despite having a child at home.

Anyhow, now I am happily back to working in my field, doing what I love to do and using my education, This week we were interviewing possible candidates for our new upcomming program, a highly saught after opportunity that has launched many a career. Each year we can only except 10 candidates. This year 50 applied. So this afternoon we needed to sit for a little head to head time to discuss all the possible applicant’s and make a Yes and No pile. I noticed in the interviews yesterday that one of the applicant’s was the grouchy girl from the call centre.  I had my co-worker inteview her to give her an unbiased perspective before letting on that I knew her. When she was undecided and needed me to be the deciding factor I laid it all out. I said I never really spoke to this person but I work alongside her for 6 months so I can tell you what I observed in her work style and personality. I was honest, and what I had to say tipped the scale to put her in the No pile when she was competing with so many other great candidates.

Anyhow the point is-When you are unecessarily nasty to people and have a bad attitude and bad vibe, even if you think no one that matters is watching, it might come back to bite you in the ass down the road. So think twice and know how other’s perceive you.

About mommamaynard

“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving.” — Albert Einstein. When it feels like your world has been shattered, and you have reached rock bottom, you must make a choice: Stay where you are and fade away, or keep moving forward. Thankfully I chose to move forward and was blessed with the two most wonderful children after the death of my first in early labor. Things are looking up.

  1. Haha, love it!
You know, (and obvously a little off-topic but employment-related) it’s amazing to me these days – people complain and whine about there not being jobs, etc. but REALLY, it’s a matter of a lack of work ethic, IMO. John’s company is always looking for work but new people are always SO fucking lazy and doing the minimum necessary. I can’t believe it. If people are so hard up for jobs, why aren’t they fucking busting their asses???
