Cloth diapering

11 weeks into our cloth diapering experience I have some deffinate oppinions. We have been using prefolds with fleece covers and PUL snap or Velcro covers, fitteds with those same covers and All in ones pocket style diapers.

My favorite by far are the all in one pockets, they are awesome easy and versatile. I think I said it before but I especially love my Thisties and want more, the leg gusset on these is genius. When Evangeline eventually outgrows her smalls I will get some Mediums. In fact I would like my entire stash to be made up of AIO’s.
I like the fitteds but hate that they need a cover, wasted is the adorable print when covered all the time. Evangeline soaks through em fast as well, even the Goodmamas. Lastly is prefolds, which I only loved during her newborn days. I like having em around as a back up diaper on wash days but E is way to squirmy and impatient for me to fold and snappi. Same reason I am not a fan of pull on covers, daughter has no patience and the snaps or Velcro are just easier, as is tucking the prefold right into that style of cover.

So thats my experience to date.

About mommamaynard

β€œLife is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving.” β€” Albert Einstein. When it feels like your world has been shattered, and you have reached rock bottom, you must make a choice: Stay where you are and fade away, or keep moving forward. Thankfully I chose to move forward and was blessed with the two most wonderful children after the death of my first in early labor. Things are looking up.

  1. I love my Thirsties AIO’s too! I think we are probably done having babies :(, but Chris and I were talking the other day and we both agreed that if we had twins we think we could do it, but I would do more aio instead of pockets due to prep time (stuffing mostly, although it doesn’t take much time it already gets put off). We also use fuzzi bunz, but if anyone watches Emma, it is my Thirsties aio or happy heiny w/ velcro that I leave. Makes it easy and gives cloth a good impression when they are just like disposables πŸ˜‰

    • Ya stuffing pockets after every single wash is pretty annoying.
I haven’t tried a Fuzzy Bunz, haven’t come across one that was a good deal. I got the Thirsties for $9 each new at Babyhalfoff.com.
Same goes for Happy Heiney’s and Bum Genius..the opportunity just never presented itself yet.

  3. Yeah, with my first, I was all about the prefolds. Now…not so much. I’ve started using the Gdiapers with the cloth liners and really loving those! My hubby thinks they are more complicated than the prefolds, but I don’t think so. The cover rarely gets dirty so you can reuse them. Sometimes a big poo will make for a liner change so I’ve ordered more of those. Good news is you can order them from their site at 2 liners for 4.99 -cheap! Plus I love how they’re not bulky and really soak up the pee while wicking away from the bottom so I don’t have to change him after a small pee.

    Love cloth!

    • haha I can’t imagine anything before complicated then the prefolds..well my Whammies diaper is close cause of the closure style, but that will be great for when she is older and can’t figure out how to get it undone.
I hear so much about G diapers but have never seen em or tried em. I think that’s what Julia Roberts used with her twins, that is how I first heard of em.
I love cloth also but am finding it hard to keep on top of the diaper laundry, baby laundry. our laundry..ect..one of things I haven’t mastered single handedly yet πŸ™‚
Do you use cloth overnight? what is your routine?
We are still using sposies overnight only cause they can hold 10 hours of pee with no rash on wee one. I have tried changing her mid sleep, she ALWAYS wakes up and stays up..such a light sleeper. Thus I have to figure out a cloth routine that can do what sposie does in that regard.
