Traveling with cloth?

How do I travel with cloth diapers?  I am figuring I will be gone 5 days, I am averaging 8 cloth diapers a day these days, so if I wash at the end of the day on night 2 then I will need at least 16 diapers with me, was planning on bringing 20, making  5 of those prefolds and covers…so..15 fitted/all in one diapers, that’s alot of diapers, plus a large wetbag. Do you like pack a separate bag just filled with diapers cause they take up alot of room? My wetbag can only hold 12ish diapers. I also only want to wash twice, night 2 and 4, we head home day 5. I will be busy busy visiting with family all day while there, so diapers will have to be washed overnight and dried in the am before our day begins.

Also-we only poop 1x a day now max, thank goodness cause I cannot get the poop stains outta her diapers ever without sunning. Even with a pre-wash/soak then heavy wash, they come out clean but covered in bright yellow stains no matter what it seems.

When it feels like your world has been shattered, and you have reached rock bottom, you must make a choice: Stay where you are and fade away, or keep moving forward. Thankfully I chose to move forward and was blessed with the two most wonderful children after the death of my first in early labor. Things are looking up.

  3. We packed a diaper suitcase or bag, with a ton of diapers, and brought the diaper pail with us, which was really a trash can, like the kitchen kind with a lid. It made people more comfortable to have an actual container with the dirties in it, rather than just a wet bag hanging or sitting in the bathroom, which we did a few times. People can be really weirded out by dirty diapers.

  5. Never bothered. For extended times away from home, we’ve always just used disposables. :/

  7. We have a separate carry-on size suitcase for Emma’s diapers. We normally just travel to my parents for the weekend, so it is enough. I think I can fit in ~20 diapers, which lasts us from Friday-Sunday night, with usually 1-2 left over. Then I just stuff an empty wetbag at the top that we use when we get there. We haven’t traveled longer than 3 days, so I am not sure what we would do then. I have done diaper laundry at my parents house, but nowhere else. We do use sposies occasionally when she gets a yucky rash so I can pile on the cream overnight and not have to worry about my diapers. If we were flying, I would really have to evaluate the packing situation.

    • Ya that is my plan, I have 10 prefolds so I will bring those 5 fitteds and 4 covers and that should cover the 5 days. I can do laundry cause I am staying with my mother, she won’t love the idea of baby poop in her washer I am sure but it’s a good chance to prove to her it washes away to nothing.
I have sposies as backup. I always keep some on hand for back up or rashes like you said.

  9. we have never used sposies, even going on 2 week camping trips each summer ๐Ÿ™‚ i just pack a jumbo wetbag with dipes, and then put them in there to bring home dirty.

  11. James and I opted for the evil sposies for more than one or two nights. We went camping, and we didn’t want to bring a whole ‘nother bag for just diapers.

  13. I’ve tried traveling with cloth and it was just too much. Too much luggage, too much trying to find a washer. So after that one trip, we just used disposables after that when we travel. When we went to Hawaii for 10 days, we just waited and bought diapers there.
If you figure out a good solution, let us know!

As for poop stains, the only thing I have found that works is presoak/ warm wash/warm rinse, with oxyclean and econuts, max wash time.
