Nanny-sitting

Huge step for me. I left Evangeline with my mom so Dave and I could have a date night. We left her for just 2 hours, but it was hard for me to leave. Luckily once I got out, I felt ok..I knew she was in safe hands with my mom, and I decided she would be ok, and I just needed some time with my hubby to enjoy each others company (yes we talked about Evangeline alot LOL) anyways, I went from 5-7 since that is between her afternoon nap and bedtime.

We both lived through the separation with minimal negative consequences is the good news. Mom said for the first half hour she was a jolly little soul, as she is these days, second half hour found her mood swinging a bit, third half hour she was downright fussy, fourth half hour she cried alot and then fell asleep in my mothers arms. I came home to her passed out, but she awoke to the sound of my voice. Cried a little more, then nursed happily and was all smiles again. Since she seems no worse for the wear. I would be comfortable doing it again if only my mom lived a bit closer. I am confident Evangeline would do better each time as she got used to it, and Dave and I could have monthly date nights.

Oh well, at least I know it’s possible. I would not leave her with almost anyone though.

About mommamaynard

β€œLife is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving.” β€” Albert Einstein. When it feels like your world has been shattered, and you have reached rock bottom, you must make a choice: Stay where you are and fade away, or keep moving forward. Thankfully I chose to move forward and was blessed with the two most wonderful children after the death of my first in early labor. Things are looking up.

  1. Such a big step!! So glad you two were able to get out alone. Its hard at first but so worth it to spend time as a couple and not just parents!

  3. Yay! So far I have done that… twice. Both times I left Peter with my mom, and my dad was there for one. I couldn’t imagine leaving him with anyone else other than our family. James’ parent’s would have also done a good job, but I *know* my mom will diligently follow any instructions I give her about Peter, and she won’t leave his side. He’s such a mellow little guy, too, that I don’t think he was terribly bothered by my being gone long.

I do worry, but it’s mostly like “oh gosh I hope no one breaks into my mom’s home while she’s there with him!”, but it’s nice to take a short break once in a while.

    • I wish Evangeline was more mellow LOL, she does not like being far from mom and is VERY vocal about it. My mom was even a bit perturbed, getting saying man she has a temper, nothing would calm her…She felt bad I could tell, but I think it’s important that I be able to get away a little. Healthy for our marriage.

  5. Woohoo!!! Congrats, mama! That is really an amazing feat, I must say! I am really proud of you for doing that, taking care of yourself and your marriage, and trusting someone else with Evangeline and not stressing too much about it πŸ™‚

    • Thanks. Wish mom didn’t live 3 hours away so we could do it more. I hate having no family around, boo.

      • I totally wish we lived closer to family too. I LOVE getting out with just Peter and I but we have NEVER done it since Lucas has been born. We are making sure we find a good babysitter when we move though. Its really important to have a chance to focus on just each other and not the kids I think.

      • When she’s older a babysitter might be ok, but right now she is a handful and if her temper/screaming can shake experienced mothers then I fear the effect it would have on someone inexperienced. I only trust family.
