Q&A Period

Q- How do all manage to sleep in a house that’s so very hot? Dosen’t it make the baby cranky?
A-Yes. well it does in fact make the baby cranky. She ‘slept’ in a diaper with a fan on her, as did we (minus the diaper).

Q-So you did manage to get some sleep then?
A-Well I guess you could call it that. Evangeline woke up every 2 hours all night whining and wanted to nurse, likely dehydrating from the heat.

Q-Wow, you must be tiered. Do have an action plan to help tonight be better?
A-Sadly-No. It’s September so we were not expecting this. It was 12 degree’s hotter then the previous highest temperature in recorded history for Halifax yesterday. It’s expected to continue soaring until Saturday when we will get relief from an encroaching hurricane. I thus don’t expect alot of sleep until then. Unless we go rent a hotel room with AC, being that we sold ours because UM We don’t really need AC here cause were coastal and it stays cool…um..?

Evangeline has a heat rash on her cheeks. Today is day 5 of these soaring temperatures and we have at least 3 more before us. Lots of fluids, lots of nursing and hanging in our undergarments. Oy. Also I think this babies teething has kicked up a notch, she is drooling buckets all of a sudden, belly and diaper soaked.

About mommamaynard

“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving.” — Albert Einstein. When it feels like your world has been shattered, and you have reached rock bottom, you must make a choice: Stay where you are and fade away, or keep moving forward. Thankfully I chose to move forward and was blessed with the two most wonderful children after the death of my first in early labor. Things are looking up.

  1. When it gets hot here, especially in the car where I don’t have AC I like to give Shira a wet rag or a sippy with ice in it so it sweats. She ends up getting wet from spilling the sippy and drinks water from sucking on the rag. I bet a cool bath or wadding pool will help before bedtime too.

  3. If she likes the tub, spend lots of time in there. A lukewarm bath before bed helps too. I even resorted to wiping Charlotte’s face, body, and head with a cool damp cloth – she fussed and cried at the time because it was cold, but once I was done she would nurse and go to sleep feeling much cooler. Hope the heat wave breaks for you soon!
