Baby boundaries

Ah, E. Is going through the drop everything, all the time phase. Oh wait, she has been going through this for 6 months, it’s just climaxed now. Anyhow, she tosses half of her meals overboard on purpose, so we are trying to work with her to not do that at the table (toys are one thing, as are cups, but we want to let her know food overboard is not ok when it’s on purpose) anyhow, my spirited little girl will go to throw something over and Dave says No sternly, so she stops and pops it into her mouth, but then she takes her empty hand and reenacts the whole thing empty handed, pretending to drop food over, but with no food. Its soo hilarious to see her little attitude in action, testing her boundaries. I bite my lip and look away cause I don’t want her to see me laugh, thinking it’s funny or a game cause it’s important she starts to learn some boundaries. However
she is toooooooo cute hahah. Watching her pretend to drop food over and over, looking to see if she will get in trouble like she does with real food, watching her lip quiver for a split second when she does get told no, then try it empty handed seconds later to see if that is ok. She is just seriously hard core testing her boundaries all of a sudden and it’s amazing to watch her process and learn.

She is also VERY near walking, basically using her fingers only to balance her, cause she is still nervous, but standing completely alone all the time.

Being back to work has been easier then suspected. She hasn’t cried once, loves the sitters cause it’s fun and she has a playmate.
Afterwork when she sees me or Dave her face just lights up with love and excitement and that is amazing, then we snuggle and nurse and the world is great. We are only nursing 3 times a day now though, E will be an early weaner, aside from bedtime and 1 middle of the night feeding she could care less about it. She never asks to nurse during the day, would rather play and drink my pumped milk from a cup, she hates sitting still to nurse unless she is tiered. Her vocabulary just keeps growing, she uses like 5 words on a regular basis now, and tries to repeat most everything she hears. She loves books and being read to. She cracks up when I do animal sounds for the pictures, her favorite is the goat maaaa haha.

So much to say, but so tiered right now and must sleep. Getting a fifth tooth and really not sleeping well as result. Two days til my baby is a year old. She is such an amazing huge personality, I couldn’t love her more.

About mommamaynard

β€œLife is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving.” β€” Albert Einstein. When it feels like your world has been shattered, and you have reached rock bottom, you must make a choice: Stay where you are and fade away, or keep moving forward. Thankfully I chose to move forward and was blessed with the two most wonderful children after the death of my first in early labor. Things are looking up.

  1. That is hysterical!! πŸ™‚ I would love to meet her some day because she sounds like so much fun. ❀
So….you give her your pumped milk in a cup? I was curious about trying that with Charlotte at some point. She takes a bottle now at daycare while I am at work. When did you start doing that?
When do you plan to try cow’s milk with her? THANKS!

    • When she is home with Dave, I give her a cup of pumped milk, when I am home (weekends and evenings) I nurse, when she is at the sitter she get’s whole Cows Milk. I tried her 1oz of cows milk at 9 months, when she tolerated it well, I upped it gradually, she now drinks around 8-10oz of cows milk a day.
      E. never had a bottle, if you recall, she wouldn’t take one, so we started with the NUK starter cup, it’s very close to a bottle in terms of the spout, she started using that at 6 months and had mastered it by 8 months, now at 12 months she is drinking from a hard spout sippy.

  2. hehe I hear you. I smile and laugh at my son all the time, and he gets mad saying to me, mommy that’s not funny, why are you laughing mommy, but I can’t help it, I laugh and smile just because I’m with him and interracting with him.

  3. Awww, hee, yes, I have a hard time not cracking up when my little ones have their temper tantrums. I occasionally tease and call Abi, “Sassy Pants”.

Glad everything is going well. An early happy birthday to your Evangeline. Sounds like she is becoming quite a plucky little independent girl. It is so astounding and beautiful and frightening watching them grow up.

  4. sounds so exciting! But yes, we do have to steel ourselves against accidentally encouraging the wrong behavior – but it sounds so funny!

Hope you get rested up this weekend. I am glad that working is ‘working’ out for you three.

Have a great birthday celebration! I hope to see some pics!
