And so we grow…

Evangeline just had her 12 month well baby last Tuesday at 14 months old. She weighed in at a whopping 17.6 lbs LOL, freaked out the nurse- practitioner, as she always does, cause she is ‘too small’ she said I know all babies grow differently, but yours has dropped from 3rd percentile to off the charts….. Yup; but she also started walking, running and climbing….Whatever, she is an image of health and eats a truck-ton of healthy food so I am not concerned, I wish everyone else would back off. She asked me if she eats lots of fruit and vegetables and I answered that she eats lots of fruit but has recently started turning her nose up at green veggies. She says to me well your gonna have to get her more vegetables somehow…Um thanks lady, cause I didn’t know that, I have been slicing greens (Asparagus tonight) really thin and mixing them in with a starch she will eat at dinnertime until she decides she likes them again ( she goes in cycles with everything, last week she loved Kiwi, this week she hates em but loves grapes).

When I asked why I should get E the Varicella vaccine (we haven’t yet) she answered “because when babies get chicken pox they die”, I just thought to myself, way to be black and white minded lady….
Anyhow it all reminded me why I avoid taking her for checkups as much as possible, I would rather just go with my mom instinct and take her in when I actually believe something wrong exclusively.

About mommamaynard

β€œLife is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving.” β€” Albert Einstein. When it feels like your world has been shattered, and you have reached rock bottom, you must make a choice: Stay where you are and fade away, or keep moving forward. Thankfully I chose to move forward and was blessed with the two most wonderful children after the death of my first in early labor. Things are looking up.

  1. Seriously….I am like here, have some thick butter spread on that multi grain toast baby.

  2. She is so small, but she should be filling up on low calorie veggies because they are healthy? Oh this woman makes so much sense.

  3. Thanks sweetie. Seriously though, I just want to say back off, look at her, she is more then fine.

  4. Thanks for this πŸ™‚ I agree.

  5. our pediatrician told us the same thing, in regards to the flu vaccine.
no bones about it..she just plainly said “if he gets the flu, he will end up in hospital and die.”

  6. “when babies get chicken pox they die”, holy shit. way to completely over-generalize and over-react.

  7. Ugh, these healthcare people. Evangeline is obviously thriving, she’s got parents that love her and are cooking delicious food for her and she seems to eat almost anything. They’ll start medicalizing their hair growth now, what’s next? lol Anyway, E is a beauty and those leg warmers you put her in, adorable!!! πŸ™‚

  8. I know we don’t know each other that well, but I want to encourage you TO trust your instincts with your daughter.
My youngest(3yo, Matthew) has cerebral palsy, and is not on any growth charts for weight, period. He dropped off ages ago, and even now at over 3years old, he only weighs 12.5kg(27lbs I think?)
You know your daughter MUCH better than a doctor!
(and..as an aside…my 3 children ages 6, 4 and 3(with severe cerebral palsy!) survived chicken pox last fall) πŸ™‚ hehe πŸ™‚
