Self Portrait- I Am Beautiful

I am strong because I am weak.
I am beautiful because I know my flaws.
I am a lover because I am a fighter.
I am fearless because I have been afraid.
I am wise because I have been foolish.
& I can laugh because I’ve known sadness.

Because I am still new to SLR photography, I find myself often just playing with my camera settings; getting to know what works best in what light. Yesterday morning during the magic hour, I found myself capturing snapshots of myself in the mirror. When looking over them I was blown away by how beautiful I actually am. No seriously, I NEVER say that. I have chronic low self esteem, focusing on what’s wrong, my pale blotchy irritable skin, my post baby paunch, my tiny eyelashes ect. It’s not often I zoom right in and have a serious look at myself. Today was the exception. I was actually overcome during editing with the fact that I AM beautiful, that I do have a lovely face, bright happy eyes, and just a lovely glow overall. Hey maybe it was just the nice lighting at that time of the morning, but I would like to believe it was my happy spirit shinning through my eyes. As Women, Mothers, Wives ect…I think we just don’t stop often enough to focus on the things we DO love about ourselves. So take a moment today, look into the mirror and pay attention to the pieces of you that you think are beautiful. For one day, focus on your favorite parts instead of the parts you hate. Tell yourself I AM BEAUTIFUL. Then take a picture or 10 and share it with me if you will 🙂 so I too can behold your beauty.

About mommamaynard

“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving.” — Albert Einstein. When it feels like your world has been shattered, and you have reached rock bottom, you must make a choice: Stay where you are and fade away, or keep moving forward. Thankfully I chose to move forward and was blessed with the two most wonderful children after the death of my first in early labor. Things are looking up.
